Meet the January guest designer: Nina Ostermann!

When and Why did you start scrapbooking?

In 2007 I was looking for a card idea. This was the first time I saw scrapbooking and I was in love. Here in Germany scrapbooking is not known as it is in USA. I would love to change this because scrapbooking is more than just crafting.

 Favorite thing about scrapbooking?

I scrapbook for the moment, to hold on the amazing memories, to make lovely people a joy, to do something special. It´s my way to reduce the pressure inside me everyday with crafting. Scrapbooking has changed my life. The chaos in my office has increased significantly, I often get parcel post for my scrapbooking and I have a happy feeling.

What inspires you?

Real life and of course the other talented scrapbookers around the world. Last but not least all the great scrapbook supplies. Love to see what´s new

What other hobbies do you have?

I love to visit flea markets, play piano and guitar, photograph and decorate our home.

Where else can we find your work?

I was just chosen for the Webster’s Pages design team and as a guest designer for Pink Paislee!

Denim ramblings

Hi, this is designer Carolina Garrido and I’d like to share some ideas with you today. But, first of all, I’d like to ask you what your favourite item is in this month’s kit. Hard to choose, isn’t it? I have to confess that the moment I opened the box, the metal kitchen elements made me gasp! They are so absolutely cute!!!!! But still, they are not my favourite, my favourite is that simple denim strip. Oh, the possibilities!

I was very stingy with my denim strip to make it last for several projects. First of all, I cut 2 2/12 inch (6 cm) pieces, and cut those in half along their length. I used those strips, together with ribbon strips of the same length, to embellish my little recipe booklet by tying them to a piece of twine the length of the recipe card.

Second, I cut a 5 1/2 inch strip (14 cm), layered it with the red rick rack on top, and sewed it to my “5 girls in a jeep” layout. It was a quick and easy way to add both texture and visual interest to the layout.

Third, I cut 5 1 1/2 inch (4 cm) pieces and sewed them to my card to make a banner, which I embellished with letters cut from patterned paper and a tiny button.

And I have saved my favourite for last: the rolled denim flowers!

To make this:

1) I cut the remaining strip (about 14 inches) in half along its length:

2) I rolled the denim strips in my hands.

3) I glued the rolled denim on a circle I cut from the metal embellies’ packaging and covered with some glue dots.

4) I topped the finished flower with a button and some twine.

5) I cut the remaining half strip in half and made two smaller flowers to go with the other one.

I love the casual look the flowers gave to my “teatro” layout:

I hope you liked these ideas and would love to see what you create with your kit’s denim strip. Leave a link below so I can have a look!
